FAQs
What is integrative psychiatry?
Integrative Psychiatry is NOT Alternative Psychiatry. Integrative Psychiatry highlights an approach to care that looks at all facets of a patient's life to uncover the root causes of their symptoms, rather than simply addressing the symptoms with medications. Medications serve as one tool in a broader strategy that also considers other factors contributing to the patient's experience. We prioritize spending ample time with each patient to gather detailed information, cultivate a therapeutic relationship, and provide comprehensive psychoeducation. This evidence-based intervention involves equipping patients with knowledge about their diagnosis, symptoms, psychological concepts, and treatment options. By doing so, we empower patients to make informed decisions about their treatment goals. We believe in the importance of building strong rapport and are dedicated to fostering personal growth in each individual we work with.
How does Integrative Psychiatry differ from Conventional Psychiatry?
Conventional psychiatry generally focuses on symptoms reduction and often utilizes medication as primary treatment. It also heavily relies on the DSM criteria for assessment and diagnosis. In contrast, Integrative psychiatry emphasizes prevention, wellness, and self care in addition to symptom management. Integrative psychiatry encourages the practitioner and client to get to the root cause of the issue instead of silencing and muting the symptoms.
What should I expect at my first appointment?
Rivka customizes her approach to each individual. Everyone has their own needs, preferences and goals. At Sage, we design a tailored plan with each client at the end of the session. That may include further lab testing, vitamin and mineral supplementation, and therapy referrals to complement traditional medication treatment.
What sort of testing do you offer?
A blood panel targeting nutritional or metabolic imbalances may be included in the plan of care to assess for levels that may need to be corrected or optimized. Laboratory blood work may be added to rule out conditions that may mimic symptoms of mental health conditions.
Is Integrative Psychiatry safe and effective?
Integrative Psychiatry prioritizes safety using evidenced-based treatments and demonstrates effectiveness in improving mental health outcomes
